Meet Debbie Messenger: Your guide to literacy
Welcome to Sound Steps Learning. Discover the passion and experience behind our child-centred approach to phonics and reading, and how we foster a love of learning in every child.

Our inspiration: A passion for every child's success
Hello, I'm Debbie Messenger, the founder of Sound Steps Learning. With many years of experience supporting children in primary education, I am passionate about helping every child develop the confidence and skills they need to become successful readers. Throughout my career as a Teaching Assistant, I have worked closely with children of all abilities, supporting phonics, reading, spelling, and literacy development in a nurturing and encouraging environment.
I have a particular interest in supporting children who find reading challenging and have completed specialist training in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia), alongside qualifications in supporting children with Autism. I believe that every child can succeed when learning is tailored to their individual needs. Sound Steps Learning was created from my desire to provide personalised, one-to-one support beyond the classroom. By combining structured phonics teaching with engaging, play-based activities, I aim to make learning enjoyable.

What children gain from Sound Steps Learning
At Sound Steps Learning, we hope children gain much more than just reading skills. Our primary goal is to nurture a child's overall development, fostering:
- **Confidence:** Empowering children to believe in their reading abilities.
- **Reading skills:** Developing strong foundational and advanced reading techniques.
- **A love of reading:** Inspiring a lifelong passion for books and stories.
- **Fun:** Making learning an enjoyable and exciting experience.
We celebrate every small victory and encourage children to learn at their own pace, ensuring they feel supported and motivated to succeed.
